1. A Batch of Thatch
Thatch occurs when a layer of grass part, like roots and stems, build up on the surface of the ground. Rather than dirt, you might see a light green or crispy brown layer of partially decomposed grass on top of the dirt. Frequent overwatering discourages roots from reaching deep into the ground. Our landscape professionals can point out any thatch problems on your lawn and recommend a solution.
2. Bugs, Bugs Everywhere
Bugs love thatch because it provides ground cover to protect them against predators. Overwatering can produce a lot more harmful bugs and insects on your lawn. This creates a worse problem if you get bugs that love to munch on grass or your garden. Nixa Lawn’s landscaping professionals will point out any harmful bugs they see and tell you what you can do to get rid of them naturally.
3. Way Too Many Weeds
Do you have an overabundance of weeds? Weeds grow faster than your lawn, and they love water. Weeds include dandelions, nutsedge, and crabgrass. If you wake up one morning and see a ton of yellow dandelions, perhaps you’re overwatering your lawn.
4. Many Mushrooms
Mushrooms and other fungi thrive in a wet environment. Look for mushrooms that pop up in overwatered areas. Other fungi that may take over your lawn include anthracnose and rust. If our landscape professionals see any fungi on your lawn, we’ll let you know.
5. Other Clues
Look for other clues if you’re overwatering your lawn. A spongy feel as you walk is one indicator. Runoff and pooling on your lawn is another. A yellowish or light-green coloring may mean excess water is leeching the nutrients from your lawn, which causes discoloration in your grass. The landscape professionals a Nixa Lawn Service will tell you if we notice anything amiss.
